Shawnee: Preserve America Community

First lady Laura Bush has informed Mayor John Arkley that the Village of Shawnee’s application to be designated as a “Preserve America” community has been approved. The award will allow the village to apply for grants from the federal Preserve America program. Among the assets that led to Shawnee’s designation was current and on-going restoration of historic buildings, the availability of an archive and historic tours provided by the LCBD Council and the village’s designation on the National Register of Historic Places. A sign announcing the designation is provided by Preserve America and will be placed at the entrance to the village.
