Seventeen teachers from Miller High School, Miller Middle School and Trimble Local Schools attended a teacher field day on April 7th. The program called Little Cities as a Classroom is designed to help teachers incorporate local history and environmental education into their classrooms with an emphasis on activities, which can get students outdoors.
The teachers visited sites on the Wayne National Forest including Wildcat Hollow and the Ora E. Anderson nature Trail. They also participated in a sampling program with the Ohio EPA. The also visited the Essex doser outside New Straitsville where staff from the Monday Creek Restoration Group discussed how local water quality can be used to teach science. Teachers also visited Robinson’s Cave in New Straitsville where they learned about local history. Participants also had discussions with representatives of the North Country Scenic Trail and the Sunday Creek Watershed Group.
The Little Cities of the Forest Collaborative provided the program.
